L'Histoire

Paroles

"Sweet Carolina Rain"
It gets wetter and wetter
When spring rolls along
It's hotter than hell
Than when we met last fall
But it gets better and better
Every time we touch
A sticky situation we're in
Trapped in the car and it's raining again
And girl, every time it stops
Lord, I miss it so much
And I wanna take the top off
And throw it in the barn, man
And just put it in drive
Run into the sweet Carolina rain
In that sweet Carolina rain
We could drive on out to the river again
Just prayin' to God that my ship comes in
I'm just a modern day Tom
But an old Huck Finn
Get my guit, pick her out the trunk
And get a pickin', boy
Just to bring me some luck
I'm gonna sweep her off her feet
Like the Southern wind
It's really comin' down now
Yeah, it's really comin' down now
In that sweet Carolina rain
Yeah, that sweet Carolina rain
Somethin' weird in the middle of the afternoon
A little honky-tonk
Then he'll pettin' and ride
Playin' David Alan Cole
Please come to Boston too
Reachin' for the little piece of that pie
Hope it don't rain on the stage
'Bout to get it up now
Preacher man's daughter
Said I was goin' to Hell (said I was born again)
I'm a little superstious now
Drivin' down the road
Goin' a hundred and ten
Braggin' to your mamma's little boy, he's a man
Swear you'll never going to feel that way again
No, no, not until you're back into that
Sweet Carolina rain
Yeah, that sweet Carolina
Oh that, sweet Carolina rain
Yah, that sweet Carolina rain
It's really comin' down

"Rattlesnake Smile"
It's been a long time since I've wore this rattle snake smile
A lot of my friends haven't seen it in quite a while
I feel my eyes rollin' deep inside my head
And there's a feeling of misconception in the air
Then I started to see
I do believe
Well I use to have a soft Southern glowing face
And I used to leave my heartaches with the chase
When you get stung with a heart of a little child
Well that's how you get that rattle snake smile
Well you better keep your distance from this stinger and shape I'm in.
Now no one better touch me right now in this cold blooded thick skin
Aww I think you better run real fast when you hear that rattling sound
Well you better run real fast man or this one's gonna knock you down
I sit alone and try to shed this skin that I'm livin' in
We're trying to clear my vision once again hoaw!
Well I ain't no good and no no how matter right now
Cos I got to run myself and I've got to run now
Do I look like something you can put in a fucking cage?
Come on over here and give me a kiss
I I I started to see
I I I do believe
Better keep your distance from this stinger and shape I'm in
Now no one better touch me right now in this cold blooded thick skin
Yeah well nah son you better run real fast when you hear that rattling sound
Well son you better run real fast man or this one's gonna knock you down
We sit alone in the desert rain with my tail in the air. OOOOOh

"Crazy in Love"
Angels are dancing in my head again
And it keeps my walkin' face
As I head out past the dam
What it used to be
She found meaning that it's dancin' in my head
Am I crazy?
Yes I am
I don't think that it's really all that strange
When I'm skippin' down the road
Singin' her name
If you could see her
Walk across a crowded room
Then you would understand
Why I go insane
The way she glistens in the moonlight
The way she outshines the star
Brighter then any sun
Angels are singing in my head again
And I don't mind sayin'
That sometimes I understand
Or I've been led about
That the coyotes cry
But they're singing in my head
Am I crazy?
Why, yes I am
Well, I don't think that it seems
Really all that strange
When I'm outside doing cartwheels
In the rain
But if you could see her
Walk across a crowded room
Then you would understand
Why I go insane
The way she glistens in the moonlight
The way she outshines the star
Brighter then any sun
And I tell you man
That I just can't get enough
Because I'm crazy in love
And I don't think it seems really all that strange
When I'm skippin' down the road
Singin' her name
But if you could see her
Walk across a crowded room
Then you'd understand
Why I go insane
Angels are laughin' in my head again
And I can see them laughin'
But I just don't give a damn
Cause it's just you and me
She oughta be
Angels in her head
Am I in love?
Yes I am
(C'mon! Woo!)

"Don't Come Home"
I ain't gonna lie,
Well I've drinking here all night,
With an old friend of mine,
Her name is misery,
Well I ain't been crying,
No I'm having a real good time,
With Miss Comunications,
She always talks to me,
I've got a lot of friends like this,
They always meet me here to have a beer,
So I won't be alone,
I never meant to bring them home,
Well I just called to tell you that I was wrong,
And you were on my mind
If you want
I will leave you
Alone right now
'Cause I know I said
Why you said
Don't come home
I bet you're with him
Yeah I heard you found someone new
He probably listens to you
Like I never did
Wish I was in your arms
Instead of talking to this machine about all the things I didn't do
Awww what else is new
I've spent a lot of time like this
Replaying memories...drinking remedies
So I won't be alone
I still can't believe you're gone
I just called to tell you
That I was wrong
And you were on my mind
If you want I will leave you
Alone right now
'Cause I know I said
Why you said
Don't come home
Don't come home no no no
Don't come home no no no
I've spent last days anywhere if you could be found
I'd give anything if you'd come back around
Anyways...
I just called to tell you
That I was wrong
Can I come home…

"The Chase"
Little bit of bourbon
And a broken neon sign
Once again I'm ridin' shotgun
To everything that's on my mind
Just a bartender
To tell my troubles to
Well, I just haven't found a way to say
I'm so in love with you
If you could hear it in my voice
See it on my face
You left me with no choice but to leave you
The Chase
Lot 35 in the pourin' rain
Leopard skin suitcase and pocket of change
Last I heard, she left for Dallas
So I'm checkin' every motel in sight
This pickup truck can't move fast enough (no)
We had our problems and times are tough
I just can't believe your leavin'
Over three words I couldn't say last night
If you could hear it in my voice
See it on my face
You left me with no choice but to leave you
A little Tequila
And a broken neon sign
Just a bartender
Can tell you what was on my mind
Said you could hear it in his voice
See it on his face
You left him with no choice but to leave you
The Chase

"Spirit Boy"
There's a little girl down south
And her daddy's got a ranch about as big as my town
And one day I swear I'm gonna go down there and get her out
From the letter that I got last fall
It says you know you're the one I love most of all
But my face is up on the sheriff's wall and there's reward signs posted up and down
The Red River Line that I cross out every night
Trying to find my heart and looking for a fight, and there were four guards
Standing on the wall I drew two six guns and I watched them fall, oh yeah
Well I came busting through them gates into a twelve gauge and a thirty-eight,
But I was quick on the draw and I got em all, yelled out to Rosa Bella,
And she came walking softly through the night,
With her hair so long looking at me with those big blue eyes,
Well I grabbed her hand and we ran to leave,
But her daddy came running from around a tree
And said ain't no way my daughters leaving here with no Cherokee
Well it might it reach into his surprise
I looked him deep in his buckshot eyes
And he had his hand on his gun but I was holding mine
And I'm runnin' down this indian highway
With a bottle of red
I've got a loaded gun and things are going my way for a change
Well you might think that I'm gonna be swinging from the trees
Although, I'm a spirit boy…
Ain't nobody gonna catch me
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah and numerous other sounds
We made love that very night
Under a burnt auburn Cancun sky
And I guess now I'm a Mexican cause in Texas I'm a wanted man
She got up in a long white gown
For the man that shot her daddy down
Somewhere around in the heat of the night there was a shot
And I'm running down this indian highway
With a bottle of red
I've got a loaded gun and things are going my way for a change yeah
Well you might think that I'm gonna be swinging from a tree
Although I'm a spirit boy
Ain't nobody gonna catch me
Yeah I'm a spirit boy
Ain't nobody gonna catch me
Yeah I'm a spirit boy
Ain't nobody gonna catch me
Yeah…

"One More Shot"
Well, I got this old TV
That you left behind
And I got a better me
It took so long to find
I've got a lot of nerve
Mmm to ask you back at all
And I put this picture of you and me
On the hole in the wall
Ain't touched a bottle in so long
'Cause now the only thing I ain't got
I was kinda hoping you'd prove me wrong
You'd give me one more shot
You'd give me one more shot
And I got this old shag rug
We used to crawl on
And I got this telephone
That you used to call me on
But since that last goodbye
Well, the phone don't ring
I've got this empty home
Filled with so many things
Ain't touched a bottle in so long
'Cause now the only thing I ain't got
I was kinda hoping you'd prove me wrong
Yeah
You'd give me one more shot
You'd give me one more shot
Oh, give it to me
Just one more shot
Just one more shot
Just one more shot
Yeah

"America High"
We cut through the backwoods of the Harrison farm
Jumped over the rock fence under Mr. Jenkins' barn
Made a beeline down Choctaw Bend to the Pawnee Bridge and ran into town
Raced that train to the tracks without slowing down
We went to see the mason man at Old Man James' store
And those rocking chairs weren't rocking, the answers are gone, and there's a sign that said "Closed" on the door
Turned around and ran back to the tracks to who the kids had come to call the Reverend Railroad Miller Jack
And he'd give you sermons and songs, all his rights and what's wrong
I would string this guitar with a flag across his lap and he'd say
"Settle down now, you kids are gonna be okay
Settle down now, the Boys and Girls are fighting for you today
Settle down now, I'm gonna tell you what you wanna believe"
Well he said "you dedicate your soul for God, Country and Rock 'n' Roll
And get America High
And get America High"
We filed them questions one by one and he knocked 'em down to the ground while we stood there in line
He said "I fought with your Daddy, Child, off the coast of Hell in the summer of 1969"
Well I was born in the Vietnam War and he died later that same year
But this country is my rock and my soul rolls from my faith in God, and that's what keeps me here
Settle down now, you kids are gonna be okay
Settle down now, the Boys and Girls are fighting for you today
Settle down now, settle down
Well he said "you dedicate your soul for God, Country and Rock 'n' Roll
And get America High
And get America High
And get America High"

"Oklahoma State of Mind"
Six pack
Stereo
20 minutes to the show
Wet roads
Heavy loads
Runnin' lotsa friday nights
The boys are in the back
With a bottle and a steel guitar
Hollywood sunset
Haven't seen the worst yet
Singin' songs at the top of our lungs
Smackin' everybody's hands
As they're slidin' through the alley
And we drive into the local bar
Well, rain or shine
Yeah, man
We're in an Oklahoma state of mind
Pop stars
Porn stars
Sixty thousand dollar cars
Hollywood women with the venom still in 'em
They got my TV rights
Your dirty cosmopolitan and wine
We got nascars
Strip bars
American made cars
Country rockin' women now to get up and get 'em
We got Budweiser beer
Jim Beam
Jack
Tequila and lime
Well, everybody's got their own definition of just their kind
Not me
I'm in an Oklahoma state of mind
Well, don't be scared of the rhythm
You can dance to this just fine
Yeah, put yourself in an Oklahoma state of mind
Yeah
When the Hollywood nights come then here I'll stay
And there's a big attitude in Dallas way
Well, I say O.K.L.A.H.O.M.A!
Ow!
Now don't be scared of the fiddle
You can dance to this just fine
Get yourself in an Oklahoma state of mind
Cut off T-Shirts and leather mini skirts
With the big armed boys and red red girls
Cowboy hats and Tony lama's
Crimson and wine
She got it if you don't write
You're jeans aren't too tight
And it ain't my fault she caught
You out here tonight
Trustin' me to force em in
And getting' me to get it all night
Well if you nip off again
You might get knocked on your behind
Sweat Boy
Yeah, man
I'm in an Oklahoma state of mind
Well they're stringin' beers
And we'll dance on into the night
Yeah
Put yourself in an Oklaho- ha-ha ooh
